NETWORKING BY RAIL
MacAndrews has a long and cordial relationship with Mercancías Renfe. This started with the commencement of TECO container freightliner services in the mid 1970s. MacAndrews utilised these services from the very first, connecting major city distribution centres such Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia with MacAndrewes’ hub port of Bilbao
Container block trains were successfully introduced shortly after for the exclusive use of MacAndrews, operating to/from the Bilbao hub port to Madrid and other centres. MacAndrews has worked tirelessly with Renfe in a continuous and harmonious partnership to the mutual benefit of both. Renfe provides MacAndrews with the necessary short sea intermodal link for its Bilbao hub port operation linking the hinterland by rail.
MacAndrews has also worked in association with Renfe for the operation of a daily train service connecting Spain and UK via the Channel Tunnel. Unfortunately, the link was not as successful as had been hoped and it was eventually abandonded but not discarded. Subsequently, MacAndrews started its own Channel Tunnel services using the railhead at Perpignan in France for its connection to Spain, mainly Catalonia, with oncarriage by road.
Rail provides fast daily transit. MacAndrews is a leader and pioneer in the operation of container block trains in combination with Renfe Transporte Combinado.
